A week on K’gari – Fraser Island

One of the key reasons we moved to Hervey Bay was to have K’gari – Fraser Island on our doorstep and it has been too long since we spent more than a day trip exploring this natural wonderland. Fortunately, we have not experienced any decline with our Real Estate business since Covid-19 changed our world. We have actually seen an increase of buyers wanting to make the move to Hervey Bay to escape the more populated areas – so we were in need of a break!

Due to some last-minute cancellations we where able to secure a weeks accommodation at K’gari Fraser Island Boutique Accommodation  at Orchis Beach

We split our week between Kyeema and Mia Mia due to bookings and can happily recommend these lovely homes if you’re looking for somewhere to base yourself at Orchid Beach. Each home has been designed to blend into the natural surroundings and you feel like your living in a treehouse surrounded by birds and you even get a sea view towards Waddy Point

No trip to K’gari is complete without a run-up to see the Sandy Cape Lighthouse which means you need to navigate South Ngkala Rocks 😉

Due to all the rain and less vehicle traffic the South Ngkala Rocks track was as good as we have ever seen it 😉

This is the Northern Most point of K’gari 😉

This is a popular sand dune for those who like a bit of sand surfing

The view from the Sandy Cape Lighthouse is worth the walk up the hill …

We also checked out the old 2nd World War bunkers and gravesite of the 1st lighthouse keep and his daughter this trip

The beautiful Champaign Pools

I always climb Indian Head each trip as teh views are stunning and you always see some large critters swim by 😉

I did a bit of fishing but the tailor were patchy with the best session I had being at the Maheno – I did assist a bloke land an EPIC GT which I will share as a separate post next 😉

Also spent a day over on the Western Beach at Awinya Creek overlooking Platypus Bay. Had a fish at Wathumba creek as well one morning but the water was really tannin-stained due to the rain and I only wound up catching half a dozen small flathead wading around the entrance

K’gari – Fraser Island is a special place that you need to visit if you haven’t already – and if you have you will return again and again – like us 😉

Cya’s next trip – Scotto
