Having the “Bass Bug” and not having cracked a genuine 50+cm model I decided to head to the legendary home of BIG bass in the SE corner of our State at Somerset and Wivenhoe Dams

Being the October longweekend we could only secure accommodation at Esk and booked the last cabin available at the Esk Caravan park – which was easy walking distance to the Esk Grand Hotel which put on great meals each night.

As luck would have it a big cold front came through upon our arrival with some ripper storms delaying our start on the 1st morning – but we got out for an afternoon session and did find some schooled up fish that we got to eat on vibes and soft plastics.

The quality of these fish has to been seen to be believed and they went harder than any we have caught to date !

We did have a coupe of hot bite sessions landing a dozen or more fish all over 40+cm with the better ones giving 48cm a nudge – BUT no 50+cm models landed unfortunately …

We also picked up a couple of solid goldens while trolling deep diving Merlins looking for new ground and fish. It was a great couple of days and we will defiantly be back to crack the elusive 50Cm + bass ….
